Bring pets indoors before midnight. If your neighborhood celebrates the New Year with fireworks, bring your pet inside well before the countdown begins. Close windows and curtains to help muffle the noise and flashes of light from outside.
Create a calm, quiet space. Set up a comfortable area away from windows where your pet can retreat if they become anxious. Playing calming music or turning on the television can help mask the sound of fireworks and celebrations outside.
Double-check identification. Startled pets can slip out of open doors during New Year’s gatherings, so make sure your pet’s collar fits properly and their ID tags are current. If your pet isn’t already microchipped, consider scheduling this ahead of the holiday for added peace of mind.
